Description
Built in 1855, the Illinois Governor’s Mansion is one of the oldest and most historic governor’s mansions in the United States. The Mansion serves as the official residence of the Governor or Illinois and as a symbol of the executive branch of state government. In February 2015, construction began to completely renovate the Illinois Governor’s Mansion, funded entirely with private dollars. While the renovation focused on structural repairs and construction updates, is was also and opportunity to focus on the visitor experience, truly making the mansion reopened to the public on July 14, 2018, complete with dedicated art spaces, expanded programming, full accessibility for visitors and a focus on Illinois’ rich history.
