Lincoln Memorial Garden contains a rich mosaic of mature upland woods and lowland forests, interspersed with sunnhy openings of prairie wildflowers. Founded in 1936 by Harriet Kundson as a living Memorial to Abrabam Lincoln, the garden features plants from three states Lincoln lived in – Kentucky, Indiana ane Illinois. In 22011, Lincoln Memorial Garden celebrated the 75th year of it founding.
The garden was designed by one of the country’s foremost landscape architects of the period., Jens Jensen. A contemporary and associate of the Frank Lloyd Wright, Jensen was a leader of the prairie school of style of landscape architecture and one of the states earlist conservationists. It is the association with Jensen that led to the Garden’s placement of the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
